What's in My Art Journal? - Ta moko?

Hey there,

Depending on the day, I'm not sure how I feel about this spread.  The feelings switch from weird to creepy to I just don't know.

On the right side I started out with a handcarved repeating stamp over the entire page.  Then I drew the face. I had a couple of samples of two handcarved repeating stamps and tore the papers up and then randomly clued them down on the left side.  Added some bubbles with words in them.  I think what makes the face a bit weird and creepy is where pattern is positioned on the face.  The face looks like Ta moko, which is  a facial tattoo worn by Maori (indigenous people from New Zealand).  Maybe I need to go with the latter, it makes more sense.

I appreciate today's visit and hope you come again.  Until the next blog...enjoy!!

  1. I don't think I would like a steady diet of weird and creepy, but, from time to time, yes, bring it! I guess that's why I like Edgar Allan Poe! I think your color palette is of almost as great an interest as your art. I like this, Carol. I really do!
