What's in my art journal? Meet Maddie

Hello!

I've had a lot of creative energy this week, I had to keep telling myself to slow down.  I'm a very impatient artist.  I tend to lean towards projects that give me instant gratification.  Well this one took some time.

For drawing, I start with an idea then try to sketch it, look up reference material, sketch some more.  Once I'm satisfied with the sketch, I trace it so that the lines are smoother and then it gets scanned into the computer.  If the image needs to be clean up, enlarged, or shrunk I use software to help me do that.

Then the real fun begins, to start creating it with it. This is Maddie  I printed her on 90lb watercolor paper and on Neenah cardstock.  Sometimes I print the image on several different substrates just to experiment in different ways with the image.

This page already had a background of Dylusions Bubble Gum (pink) paint on it with a cleaned off stencil.  The paint had a lil acrylic clear iridescent added to it for sparkle.  With a lil more rubber stamping and stencil work, Maddie  was added to complete the page.  Her hair color was inspired by a friend who's hair is similar.

This next one, is the original idea.  This was going to be a face with no body.  I ended up making the body but only used the head on this journal page (the body is similar to the body above, except she has both hands on her hips and no magnifying glass).

The background on this two page spread was made a while ago from cleaning off my stencils and stamp examples.

The gentleman looks like Micheal Jackson.  I swear that's not what I was aiming for but he looks great!

Thanks for today's visit, I'm off to color more Maddie cut outs.  Leave me a comment to let me know you were here.  Until the next blog...enjoy!

  1. What a fun play time, Carol! Both are sweet images, the second reminding me very much of Michelle Obama!
